The number of brokerage accounts opened in Russia in the coming years may reach 74 million, said Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia Vladimir Chistyukhin at the XI Moscow Exchange Exchange Forum.
“We have an economically active population of 74 million, I think that exactly as many brokerage accounts can be opened, at least,” he said.
In his opinion, a brokerage account will be opened for all clients of banks “just in case”. “Taking into account that, first of all, it is credit institutions that attract clients to open brokerage accounts and carry out any operations through them, I assume that every client who has a bank account will also open a brokerage account, just in case,” he added Chistyukhin.
In turn, the maximum number of Russians who can have funded accounts will not exceed 20 million, added Andrei Shemetov, Senior Vice President, Head of SberCIB. Over the next two years, the balances on brokerage accounts will approximately double – from 7 trillion to 14 trillion rubles, he also believes.
In March, the number of individuals with brokerage accounts on the Moscow Exchange increased by 754.5 thousand people and exceeded 11 million. The share of private investors in the volume of trading in shares amounted to 39%, bonds – 15%, in the derivatives market – 44%, spot currency market – 13%.
