An explosion occurred at the Kamensk chemical plant in the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Rostov region, followed by a fire, Interfax and Baza report, citing informed sources.
The accident at the enterprise built in 1939, which now belongs to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and is engaged in the production of ammunition, occurred on Thursday evening.
In the “closed” workshop, which deals with special-purpose products, during the usual procedure for making molds, the equipment malfunctioned: the special “cutter” did not close, after which the manager decided to close it manually.
Seven employees entered the shop, and while fixing a broken damper, an outbreak occurred, writes Baza.
As a result, people actually “burned out”, having received severe chemical burns: in six, they make up 100% of the body.
One of the workers died, a law enforcement source told TASS.
The victims were hospitalized in the Central City Hospital of the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, as well as in a medical facility in Rostov-on-Don.
Representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and technical specialists arrived at the facility, Igor Sorokin, Deputy Governor of the Rostov Region, told TASS.
