The cost of diesel fuel rose at auction on Wednesday to 52.01 thousand rubles per ton, updating the historical maximum reached on June 15. This follows from the data of the St. Petersburg International Commodity Exchange (SPIMEX).
During the exchange trading on Wednesday, the price of diesel fuel increased by 0.1% and for the first time exceeded 52 thousand rubles per ton. Since the beginning of June, the stock index has grown by 2.8% and several times broke the record in October 2018 (50.7 thousand rubles per tonne).
Earlier, the Ministry of Energy said that the volume of supply of diesel fuel in the domestic Russian market is twice the volume of consumption, but the market is influenced by external factors, including the rise in oil prices. At the same time, the ministry stressed that the rise in prices for retail diesel fuel will remain at the inflation level.
According to Alexander Frolov, Deputy Director General of the Institute of National Energy, stock quotes may grow against the background of seasonal growth in demand for fuel from the population and business, as well as due to high competition between traders who do not have their own reserves and trade on the derivatives market. “Among other things, the exchange is being heated by some small fuel traders who are trying to improve their position against the background of rising gasoline prices and are trying to accelerate the diesel prices that were previously growing by only 1.5% to 2-3.5% growth, which will already be close to inflation “, – added the expert.
