Producers of chicken eggs turned to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation with a request to solve the problem with a “critical decrease” in the purchase prices for their products. The Rospitsesoyuz noted that this could threaten with a shortage of chicken eggs, the Vedomosti newspaper reported on Friday.
As the publication was told by two people who participated in a meeting at the Ministry of Industry and Trade on May 26, manufacturers attribute the current situation to the seasonal decline in demand for their products, which usually occurs after Easter. As the interlocutors told the newspaper, over the past year producers of chicken eggs have faced the problem of a significant increase in costs, which led to the fact that the purchase prices were lower than the production cost.
The representative of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation confirmed that by May 26, eggs of the 1st category in the wholesale fell in price by 19.5% compared to the same date in April, and the 2nd category – by 10.9%, but he did not give absolute figures.
According to Galina Bobyleva, general director of Rospitsesoyuz, egg producers will not be able to work at a loss for a long time, and therefore some companies will think about reducing the number of laying hens. This, according to Bobyleva, may ultimately lead to a shortage of products. In her opinion, the current problem can be solved if we move away from mainly tender supplies towards direct long-term contracts.
According to the general director of the National Union of Poultry Breeders Sergei Lakhtyukhov, the union is now discussing with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Industry and Trade ways to improve communication with networks in order to prevent price jumps both up and down. At the same time, he noted that there is no talk of administrative regulation.
At the same time, according to the publication, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation assesses the situation with eggs as stable and comfortable for further increasing the production of poultry products in 2021. The representative of the department believes that the financial stability of enterprises will be facilitated by the recently approved measures to support the industry, including an increase in the maximum size of a concessional short-term loan per borrower from 1 billion to 1.5 billion rubles, as well as the prolongation of concessional investment loans for up to 12 years to enterprises. who have suffered from highly pathogenic avian influenza. The representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade did not answer Vedomosti’s questions.
