The US is worried about the deteriorating health of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in the colony, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Wednesday.
“We are concerned about reports that Navalny’s health is deteriorating, that he went on a hunger strike, demanding access to medical care,” Psaki said at a briefing.
He added that the Joe Biden administration is calling for all necessary measures to be taken to ensure Navalny’s safety and health.
“The Russian authorities are responsible for his health and well-being,” Psaki said.
She added that the United States will continue to closely monitor the situation with the Russian opposition leader, whose arrest in Washington is considered politically motivated, and is also demanding the immediate release of Navalny and an end to the persecution of his supporters.
